BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

At the pre-match presscon with the Azkals United & Icheon Citizen

At the pre-match press conference for the Kia Rio Cup at the Serendipity Lounge of the Discovery Suites. The Korean team seemed friendly enough. The managers' meeting alone was light and friendly.

For the pre-match press conference, we invited a familiar face and a new one. At the left is Fil-German striker Dennis Wolf, defender Rob Gier, and at the right is head coach Michael Weiss. Everyone is gearing up for an exciting year in football as the national team gets ready to take the next step.

In the match tomorrow, should the game end (after 90 minutes) in a draw, there will be NO extra time. Both teams will proceed to a penalty shootout to decide the winner of the Kia Rio Cup. And yes, a Kia Rio will be given away to those who buy tickets (complimentary tickets are disqualified as are relatives of the participating groups in the match).

With players and the head coach of Icheon Citizen with the trophy.

With some of my students from Ateneo who attended the press conference to learn as well as to lend a hand. Good experience for them. A few will be helping out in the media room tomorrow.

With Dennis Wolf who said that he was excited about playing his first match with the Azkals.
