A few months ago, we announced that Ricky Dandan was named head coach of the University of the Philippines' men's basketball team. He's been working with the team since but it was only in the last few days that State U officially sent out their press release on the appointment.
Dandan, a Joe Lipa protege, played for UP from 1981 to 1985 also under the man they call "Da Nose", is counted on to turn around the team’s ill fortune more so after going 0-14 twice in the last four years. The Fighting Maroons have a training pool of 18 players and expected to make the UAAP Season 74 line-up are Nigerian Alingco Emba and West Negros transferee Raul Suyod.
Prior to his appointment, Dandan was the basketball program director for Ateneo de Manila University, where he was also assistant coach to Lipa for three seasons. He was also previously head coach of University of St. La Salle in Bacolod for six seasons. In the pro loop, Dandan worked as an assistant with Air21/Fedex and is currently an assistant with the Powerade Tigers.
Good luck, coach!
