BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

You don't get it King (LeBron James)

I knew that LeBron James wasn't going back to Cleveland after news broke about that one-hour special of his on ESPN. What kind of travesty was that?

Anyways, not soon after James jerseys were being burned in Cleveland, what came to my mind was this old skit from Sesame Street.

The King, in the skit, was incapable of getting things done on his own even if everyone was there to support him. It was the Prime Minister who finally got things going for the King. And really, James was given what could fit given the salary cap and the players who joined him (Jordan had to make do with less). And well, now a title, looks like he's gonna need help to get it -- from Dwyane Wade and his Miami Heat. So much for the leading the way.

If Miami wins it this coming NBA season, remember... the kingmaker was Dwyane Wade.
