BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Allen Durham tows Meralco to its second straight win in the PBA Governors' Cup

The Meralco Bolts won their second straight match in the PBA Governors' Cup, 100-96, over the Alaska Aces last Sunday, July 17. The Bolts looked to coast to the win but Alaska strung up several straight three-pointers to make a game of it. However, at the end, Meralco, hung tough.

What I noticed even during their conference opener versus Phoenix, they didn't panic anymore. There was this confident look they'd get things done.

While Calvin Abueva didn't suit up for Alaska and obviously, that told on their cause, it was still a big win for Meralco in this short conference.

Allen Durham was once more a force to be reckoned with -- 36 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 1 blocked shot against 3 turnovers.

Lest you think that it was an all Durham show, Chris Newsome, Jared Dillinger, and Reynel Hugnatan all came up big for Meralco.
