BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Dandan resigns, Madrid takes over

The latest in the ongoing saga of the UP Fighting Maroons looks to have turned its head. Ricky Dandan who was taken out by team management last week in place of Rey Madrid has officially resigned according to my source in UP. Madrid will officially take over when the Dean makes the announcement tomorrow. Dandan will be taking a sabbatical from coaching. In the meantime, word has it that the others in the current coaching staff will remain.

----------------------------------

Truthfully, I didn't expect Coach Ricky to come back. It would be such an awkward situation for him to do so and put him in an even more difficult situation what with strained relations with team management. But team management should also take a long hard look at themselves. They cannot simply pin this on the coach. How many years have they been on the job but the results are still the same?
