BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

NCAA's statement on the Franz Dysam shooting

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) condemns the attempt on the life of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Men’s Basketball player Franz Dysam and the killing of Ms. Joanne Sordan.

Such violence has no place in our society.

We are appealing to those who may have any information on the incident to come out and help the authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

The member schools of the NCAA have always held the welfare of their students with utmost importance. It is in this regard that we join Colegio de San Juan de Letran community in seeking for the immediate resolution of the case and praying for the speedy recovery of Franz.

We also extend our condolences to the family of Ms. Joanne and pray for her repose.
