BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Kale Alvarez to coach Manila Jeepney Football Club

Kale Alvarez, former Kaya head coach, is back with a new club -- Manila Jeepney Football Club. Obviously, the team will be Manila based and will sort of represent the city. The plan for this football team is to feature mostly homegrown talent with a limited number of foreign players. "If possible, we'll go with a wholly local line up." Other details such as the coaching staff and the players will be revealed soon.

Nice to see Kale bounce back. He was supposed to coach Pasargad last season but couldn't come to an agreement with the team management.

As for where they will play? We'll find out soon too.
