BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Here's an idea - A UAAP Dunk Contest & Three-point shootout

Just an idea here for the UAAP...

There's the Cheer Dance Competition to spice up the basketball tournament, how about an All-Star Game and Challenge? Do this between the two rounds so everyone is fresh and still into the season. Maybe to make it equitable and fair, we can group teams by odd and even rankings by the end of the first round. 

If the coaches will protest the holding of an All-Star Game during the season (because someone might suffer an injury), then we could do something less stressful like a three-point shootout and dunk contest.

Put it this way -- have you ever wondered who is the best three-point shooter in the UAAP? This is where you get to prove it. FEU's Terrence Romeo, UST's Clark Bautista, UE's Roi Sumang, Adamson's Roider Cabrera, NU's Denice Villamor, La Salle's Almond Vosotros, Ateneo's Juami Tiongson, and UP's Samuel Marata. Now that is one awesome line-up of badass snipers!

 Then for the dunk contest, we could have Ateneo's Chris Newsome, La Salle's Arnold Van Opstal, NU's Troy Rosario, FEU's Anthony Hargrove, UST's Kevin Ferrer, UP's Chris Ball, and whoever the rimrockers from UE and Adamson are.

 And to link it up with the women's team, we can have a Skills/2-Ball Challenge. Now that would be fun!

    that would be great. the last time there were side events was when the NCAA was still with ABSCBN. before the all-star game, they had a slam dunk contest and a 3-point shootout. i wanna see those events again

    Rick, my money's on marata or roider from that roster of snipers.

    NEWSOME! is a strong bet among the dunkers. His explosion is unreal.

    how about mixing in a skills challenge? Lots of guards worth featuring.

    That would surely be exciting if this showdown actually happens. Maybe it might beat the number people attending the cheer dance competition. But I hope if it does happen, it should hopefully start this season. If not, maybe the next.
