BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

UE's Charles Mammie backs up the talk with his big game.

UE Red Warriors center Charles Mammie is really a quiet and fun loving guy. But on the court, well, he's a beast. In the past several Filoil matches, he has been scribbling messages on his shoes (yep, I have pics of three of those messages). This is what he had written down for the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup. And the big man backed up his quiet talk with his big game -- 10 points and 21 rebounds. By his lonesome, he outplayed the duo of Jean Mbe and Alfred Aroga who collectively had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
