BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Phil Jackson's checklist

Phil Jackson’s checklist
by rick olivares

According to some reports, Phil Jackson will not be coaching again. “I have no intention of ever coaching again,” said the Zen Master to SheridanHoops.com.

Despite Jackson’s proclamation, many expect him to come back next season to coach the underachieving or overachieving (depending on how you look at them) Brooklyn Nets.

I looked to Jackson’s past and have found a formula that if it works will determine if Big Chief Triangle has one more NBA run in him. And I ran that checklist against three possible destinations.

I omitted the criteria of “title contender” from the checklist as it is a given.

Of the three, it is the Nets – although they do not satisfy all the criteria – that look to be the closest. But it’s both hilarious and amazing at the same time to see the similarities.

PJ Carlesimo has gone 1-6 since he took over as interim coach but that doesn’t mean is all right in Brooklyn.

I guess we will really find out what the score is at the end of the season and if Phil Jackson has one more ride in him.
