BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

A poignant moment following the Denver-Baltimore game

This is a real classy moment. Some time after the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Denver Broncos with a field goal in overtime, Peyton Manning patiently waited for Ray Lewis outside the locker room for a conversation. It must have been difficult for Manning after such a disheartening defeat. Then there was that Joe Flacco pass that led to a touchdown to send the game into overtime. That was followed by that field goal to end what has been a great season for Denver. But perhaps its most poignant moment was the one where two American Football greats shared a moment before one went on to play another day while another is left to ponder a crucial interception and unfinished business.
