BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

My second column for NBA.com Philippines

Much has been written and said about those teams that launched their generation's mother of all comebacks. And that does make for great storytelling. But what of those on the losing end? Were they able to come back from such a demoralizing debacle? I attempt to chart the rise, fall and fate of these teams. In my second column for NBA Philippines that comes out every Wednesday. Hope you like it. And check out everyone as well.

  1. Hi Rick!

Great work. However, I believe the Lakers won the title at the expense of the Orlando Magic, not the Cleveland Cavaliers before setting up a rematch with Boston in 2010.

  2. And I thought Bill Simmons was THE basketball nerd! What a post!

This reminds me of a Peanuts comic strip where one of the characters was excitedly telling Charlie Brown about how his team made a glorious comeback, overcame huge odds, and beat the opponent to win the championship , and was delirious with joy. To which Charlie Brown responded - "How did the other team feel?"

  3. Thanks, guys. Adjustment made. As for the Peanuts comic strip, I was also weaned on that stuff. Love the allusion, Gej. I appreciate it as always.
