BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Rebound meeting

Anton Roxas, Kenneth Ti, Sid Ventura, Diana Moraleda, me, Gabe Mercado, Bob Guerrero, Raddy Mabasa, and Paul Ryan Tan. Not in picture are Tessa Jazmines and Bill Velasco.
The staff of Rebound met last night to discuss a new direction for the magazine as go into our fourth year. As we prep for our college hoops season preview, we will have a new editor-in-chief in Gabe Mercado. For EIC Mike Yu stepped down as he is now based in Hong Kong.

Senior writer Chris Soler bids adieu as he will continue his studies in the United States. Adrian Dy has moved to the GMA7 website.

With those loses, Bill Velasco returns to the fold while Bob Guerrero will pull double duty as writer/photographer. Rounding out the rest of the writing staff are Sid Ventura, Anton Roxas, Tessa Jazmines, and myself. We might have a surprise writer (but we will find out in a few weeks). Our crew of photogs include Paul Ryan Tan, Raddy Mabasa, and Diana Moraleda. Managing editor Kenneth Ti will chip in photos on occasion.

I'm real happy that Rebound is now on its fourth year (and second in a distribution partnership with UNO Magazine). This was the best offshoot of our SportsNation classes that we held about over four years ago at Cubao X. You'll definitely see a different quality to the magazine with the next one. I know I said this last year but we were not able to do that. But the next issue's cover will have the La Salle Green Archers.
