BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

No more excuses. Floyd Mayweather calls out Manny Pacquiao.

Finally, with his life on the ropes because of a conviction, Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally calls Manny Pacquiao out for a fight --- through Twitter. Time was you went up to a guy and challenged him to a fight. Then it got sophisticated and it went through these promoters. Now, well, there's Twitter. I'll say that Pretty Boy needs this fight more than ever. But so does Manny Pacquiao after that last fight with Juan Manuel Marquez that ended controversially once more. Hey, Bob Arum (who is now playing coy and hard to get)... give the people what they want. Enough of Miguel Cotto or Marquez (coz he might be robbed again). It's time for the pound-for-pound kings to put up their dukes. If Floyd wins, he'll be laughing all the way to the bank. If Manny wins, he'll send Mayweather not only into retirement but to jail in a funk.
