BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

He really is Goldenballs!

Before the Los Angeles Galaxy played the Houston Dynamo for the Major League Soccer Cup, I had a thought -- should the Galaxy, then David Beckham would have won a title with every team that he has played for in his final year with them. First up, Manchester United in 2003 and then Real Madrid in 2006. I didn't say it (as if the mere thought of that could jinx the Galaxy) and so he's won it with Los Angeles in 2011. Incredible! He really is Goldenballs. But more than a lucky charm, Beckham played well in these last two seasons and was an offensive force in the finals series. Now if his luck translates into a World Cup or European title for England. Photo by Wally Skalij.

  1. Rick: He can join the UFL so that he can experience winning a pro league championship in his debut season. hehe
