BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Football at the 16th University Games in Roxas City

MONDAY UNI-GAMES FOOTBALL. Villareal Stadium, Roxas City --  After Ateneo's freshman Mikko Mabanag scored on a spectacular corner kick to give the Blue Eagles a 1-nil lead, Dipolog Medical Center College came back in the second half to score two goals to win 2-1. In the picture above, DMCC winger Bryan Gumela scored on a penalty that leveled the match. Renando Mantua scored late in the second half to win the match.

Over at the women's side, De La Salle University destroyed Foundation University 5-0. The rains over the past three days reduced the fields to a muddy patch of earth. While there was some element of skill, a lot of luck and defensive lapses produced goals. It wasn't really fun to watch.
