BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Make a list and check it twice -- SLAM's 500 Best NBA players of all time

I recall in 1997, Slam magazine answered the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of All Time with one of their own. I agreed with what this New York-based mag did rank the players better because the NBA's version that came out in a coffeetable book had Shaquille O'Neill (when he had done nothing at that point) and missed out on a few guys like Dominique Wilkins and Adrian Dantley. Now fourteen years later.... there's this new list they've made. I enjoyed reading the list and although I disagreed with the ranking of some I thought that it makes for great chit chat. Check this one out, hoops junkies.
