BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Victorious Baby Tams!

After being stopped in the last two finals by Ateneo High School, the FEU-FERN Baby Tamaraws turned the tables on their tormentors by beating them 1-nil in the final game of the eliminations for a sweep of the UAAP Juniors Football Tournament. Paolo Bugas scored the winning goal in the 59th minute when he was able to volley home a poor clearance by Ateneo's defense. It was an intense but well-played match. Congratulations to FEU!

In the photo above (taken by Brosi Gonzales), the Tams -- with Bugas being given a victory ride by teammate Patrick Rallos -- celebrate with Blue Booter Chris Sumulong shows his anguish.
