BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Supafly gets the nod

Scottie Pippen is going to the Basketball Hall of Fame alongside fellow Dream Teamer Karl Malone, the late Dennis Johnson, and Bobby Hurley Sr. One of my all-time fave NBA players is getting his due.

You think I'm worried he's going talk smack during his induction speech at the hall? Nah. He was never Jordan and I mean that in a positive way.

When the dynasty was broken up, I thought it was criminal that the Jerrys didn't allow MJ and Pip to stay. I'm of the old school belief that stars should finish their career with one club in the way Larry Bird stayed with Boston and Magic Johnson finished his career with Los Angeles on his terms. Although Pip did return to play for Chicago in his final year in the NBA, injuries had robbed him of his overall effectiveness and limited him to 23 games. Hmm... 23.

And his Air Max Uptempo with the huge "AIR" on either side is one of my fave kicks of all time. It rocks doncha think?

Here are his career total stats from nba.com

Now I'm throwing out a bone here... Dennis Rodman deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
