BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Sailing takes me away

The first Commodore's Cup Regatta will be held this coming April 6-10 at the Subic Bay Freeport with some 30 international sailors from the United States, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia taking part.

The organizers, the Subic Bay Yacht Club and the Lighthouse Marina Resort, hope that the event and the locale will become a top sailing destination with its clear blue waters and white sand beaches.

The Philippines will be represented by Selma Star/C! Calibre from the home yacht club.

The Selma Star/C! Calibre is a 36-foot cruiser racer yacht is grand slam winner in the Borneo International Yachting Challenge from 2007-2009, and grand prize winner in the Singapore Straits Regatta in 2006 and the Manila-Boracay race in 2006 and 2008.
