BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Red Pride

The season has been forgettable. And then some. With Manchester United and Arsenal out of the Champions League, who would have thought that it would come down to Liverpool and Fulham to give English teams a chance at some European silverware?

For Liverpool, thanks to a Dutchman (Dirk Kuyt), a much-maligned Brazilian (Lucas), and a Spanish star (Fernando Torres who scored two goals that avoided a penalty shootout). Liverpool beat Benfica 5-3 on aggregate on an electric European night in Anfield. Hopefully, the Reds can use this as a springboard since they beat a good Portuguese side that is making a run towards a Champions League slot for next season.

Take a good look at these lads with Carlsberg in front coz next year, it's Standard Chartered as the sponsor.
