BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

UAAP Season 72 Volleyball Standings

Top: Men's standings. Below: Women's. Good push by the Ateneo Men's Team. They're now in the thick of things and the weekend will be crucial for them. The Lady Spikers won today versus UP in three sets to go one up on Adamson. Good luck this weekend. And to the Ateneo Track Teams... good luck tomorrow. The start of the four-day UAAP competition at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Hopefully, next year, the track events will also be held in Loyola. After this UAAP football tournament, Erenchun Field will receive a massive facelift. A track will be put around the pitch and the area near the parking lots will have a small grandstand complete with showers. This means that the parking area will shrink somewhat. And some of the trees will be uprooted. Don't know where they will be re-planted. But... it's about time. Now if they can do something about the basketball gym.

Atty. Eric Ingles jokingly suggested that we should immediately pull out our pickaxes and tear up holes just to make sure that it happens. Hahaha!
