BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Wednesday Late Breakers

Rabeh Al-Hussaini signed a two year contract with Smart Gilas one hour ago. He will suit up for the national team when they play Burger King this Friday at 2:30 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Regarding Smart Gilas losing to Alaska. That's the second time Gilas lost to them this year. In the first match up, said Tim Cone, "That's the best we played all conference long." The Alaska coach's team was taking beatings in the previous conference and came out firing as they beat the nationals at the Reyes Gym. Contrapelo? Maybe. Pero dapat lang naman di ba? The Alaska team is pretty good.

People are wondering what happened to Lucas Tagarda in Game 3 and why he didn't play. I forgot to mention in my column on Coach Lawrence that Tagarda tore his ACL during warm-ups. Damn. Get well soon, dude.

Stephen Jackson returned the captain's armband to Don Nelson. He belittled the position by saying that all the team captain does is talk to the refs before games. What an ignorant bum. You win one title and you think you're hot shit? Man, the original Run-TMC is far better than the 2K version that had only one good play-off run before fading into mediocrity.
