BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Ultimate Badass

Over the weekend, I caught up with the last few UFC events that I had missed because of work. No, I wasn't spoiling for a three-round fight but I did enjoy watching UFC 100 and the UFC 100 Greatest Fights.

I've been a fan of UFC since 2005 although I didn't write about it. Since then I'vealso been wtaching other MMA events like Affliction, Strikeforce, and those old PRIDE fights.

My fave MMA fighters? Matt Hughes, Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, Karo Parisyan, Randy Couture, and Quinton Jackson. Oh yeah, there's Gina Carano who played "Crush" on American Gladiators.

Upcoming stud... Gegard Mousasi is a frightening clone of the one guy who is not in the UFC -- Fedor Emelianenko. Fights is look forward to -- that BJ Penn vs Diego Sanchez in UFC 107 looks like it's going to be a nasty one. Quinton Jackson vs Rashad Evans? Rampage will crack Sugar's skull.
