BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

The lowdown on The Dragon and Smackdown

Round table discussion with WWE Hall of Famer Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat at the Batanes Room of Shangri-La EDSA. The Dragon, who served as an advance party for the main body of wrestlers, was gregarious and a fun interview. Sure was cool sitting next to a wrestling legend.

He works in the backroom of the WWE. Player development and occassionally wrestling. He sure misses the show. After retiring relatively injury free, he still tries to keep in shape even if it is clear that he has lost a step.

Thanks to Joey Mendoza of the Philippine Star for emailing me the picture.

Coming up my article on the WWE's ECW and Smackdown event in Manila.

So okay, who am I going to layeth the smackdown on?

In the meantime, you might want to read an early column of mine on pro wrestling.
