BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Jay Jay is MVP

Ginebra San Miguel's Jay Jay Helterbrand wins the MVP Award.

Nice one.

I'm a San Miguel Beer fan (now) but whoever made that reference that the Beermen are in the company of the Boston Celtics for winning 17 championships.... er, wait ha.

Wag na lang tayo mag-compare. Kasi before the PBA had three conferences in one year. Now we have two. So it's different. Second, a PBA team does not play the same number of games that an NBA does. Apples and oranges I guess.
Justify Full
Let's just take it for what it is. The Boston Celtics are the winningest NBA team. The San Miguel Beermen are the team with the most titles in the PBA. Now isn't that a great Finals we're seeing between SMC and Ginebra? But that was a total bum call on Gabe Freeman in the dying minutes of the game.

Ano ba naman yan.

Like watching that game by Arellano University and Angeles University Foundation. Sorry, but NABRO's officiating there was atrocious. Those guys should be shot. All of us in the baseline and on the bench couldn't believe that the refs were muffing all these calls and non-calls.
