BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Laos Lontok or Golden Oldies

They have this league here that they call "Laos Lontok." It's for those over-the-hill players that's why they call it "laos." It's from 40-and above. But make no mistake, they are still pretty good and it's competitive (they still tackle like anything).

Here are the four teams that competed last Sunday morning.

Barotac Nuevo 1 (they fielded two teams) and this one played La Paz-Jaro (below in white) to a 3-3 draw.

The second match pitted the team of Santa Barbara (in red above) and Barotac Nuevo 2. Again, both teams battled to a 3-3 draw. Just an added note to the Santa Barbara team, SBFC official Tito Greg Sirilan tells me that there's this Dutch national who plays football with them whenever he's in town. He's not great but he gets an "A" for his heart and effort.
