BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

#23 is still in

Exeunt LeBron James. Enter Robin Soderling.

The 23rd seeded Swede sent Rafael Nadal packing for the first time in the French Open blowing the race wide open for the men's singles title. Giving the four-time champ a dose of his own medicine by running him ragged across the baseline, Soderling took a a hard-fought four set win.

Soderling was gracious in victory after but in reality these two guys do not like each other making it even more personal.

Then Anan Ivanovic was bounced too in the fourth round. No, not by any 23rd seed but to the #9 Victoria Azarenka.
