BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Cream pies and WWE championship belts! Let's go, Yankees!

They've started a new tradition in Yankee Stadium thanks to AJ Burnett.

It's been one spectacular weekend in the Bronx with New York rattling off the straight walk-off wins over the hardluck Minnesota Twins. Each time, pitcher AJ Burnett moshed a cream pie on the game's best player -- first Melky Cabrera (two-run single to end the game in the ninth) then to Alex Rodriguez (two-run homer in the eleventh) and now Johnny Damon who hit a home run to the right field porch in the 11th to give the Yankees a 3-2 win and 20-17 slate.

The cream pie tradition is on the field for all the fans to see. Inside the dugout, they've been passing a replica WWE championship belt around for the game's best player.

Said Johnny Damon who is leading the team with 10 home runs , "Best family entertainment going."

Yeah, boy! I agree.
