BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Smart Gilas Pilipinas Update!

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is pleased to announce the signing up of former Los Angeles Lakers draftee CJ Giles to reinforce the Smart Gilas Pilipinas Men's National Team for the forthcoming FIBA Asia Champion's Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia. The tournament will be held on May 12.

Giles is a 6'11" wiry center who played for Kansas University and Oregon State from 2004-07. He averaged a career best 6.3 ppg, 5.9rpg, and 2 bpg in college.

Described as having great size and strength, Giles, 23 , is n excellent rebounderand phenomenal shotblocker with a 7'4" wingspan. He was drafted by the Lakers in '08 and played 5 games while averaging 2.7 ppg and 3.4 rpg. He also played with the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Summer League of '08 and Sioux Falls in the D-League in '09.
