BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

On a Giant roll

In Week 1 of the NFL, the New York Giants began defense of their Super Bowl title by beating the new look Washington Redskins 16-7 at Giants Stadium. Plaxico Burress ran for 133 yards on 8 receptions but a trio of John Carney field goals and a 1-yard TD by QB Eli Manning.

In Week 12, Big Blue marched into FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland to make a statement by once during off the Redskins who after that loss found their heart to play for Jim Zorn. Have the Redskins overachieved? not really. They have a good team right here beginning with their QB1 Jason Campbell.

But the Giants scored in their very first possession in the driving rain. That says a lot. Even without Burress who is once in the midst of a storm of his own making. The Giants showed they can win whether through the air game or running the football.

Now at 11-1, they've got a tough sked ahead of them. First up are the unpredictable Philadelphia Eagles before another slobberknocker with the resurgent Dallas Cowboys who have a chance at the post-season.
