BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

David Beckham in Australia

Last November 26, David Beckham in Australia for an exhibition game between the LA Galaxy and Sydney FC took a motor launch down Sydney Harbor to a pontoon set up in the shadows of the landmark Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge, where he kicked rugby balls, Australian Rules footballs and soccer balls in a sponsor's promotion with local football stars. Although he had trouble with a couple of kicks with the oval-shaped balls, Beckham showed no signs of the right knee and left ankle injuries that limited his first Major League Soccer season with the Galaxy to just five matches.

Thanks to Eric Chiu, adidas' Manager for Sport Performance Brand Public Relations Asia-Pacific Region for the pix!
