La Salle Lipa wins third straight RVL match
by rick olivares
The De La Salle Lipa Green Chevrons encountered some
resistance from the University of San Jose Recoletos but ultimately, had too
much talent, to win, 25-18 and 25-12, to remain unbeaten in three matches in
the Rebisco Volleyball League at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
Behind the scoring of Mirgie Bautista and Alleiah
Malaluan and the expert setting of Janel Maraguinot, the Green Chevrons looked
to win big in the first set.
But USJR, winless thus far, came roaring back. But
Bautista scored on two consecutive attacks that gave De La Salle Lipa the lead.
While the girls admitted to the pressure on them,
head coach Ronwald Dimaculangan said they shouldn't be concerned with what they
cannot control as they are a young team. "What we can do is play good
defense and focus. That will allow us to attack.”
Dimaculangan also down played the tag of tournament
favorites along with National University. “They are good. As for us, we will
just worry about that if and when we meet up. Right now, it’s one game at a
time for us.”
In other RVL matches, Hope Christian High School,
with coach Jerry Yee unavailable, looked to roll over Leyte National High
School after taking the first set in relatively easy fashion, 25-9. Come the
second set, Leyte led 10-7 before HCHS behind Mycah Go, Irah Jaboneta, and
Chenae Basarte put it all together for a 25-16 second set win and a sweep;
their third win in as many matches.
