BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Renovations being done on the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium are on schedule and will be finished in time for the Philippines’ home match against Sri Lanka in the opening leg of the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers on July 3, 2011 said Cathy Nazareno-Rivilla, General Coordinator for the home match informed media outlets of the developments last Sunday, June 12, 2011.

“The renovation of the seats in the grandstand are almost completed,” expounded Rivilla, who also managed the centennial celebration of the Philippine Football Federation last December 2007 that saw FIFA President Joseph Blatter in attendance. “Work is also being done in the bleachers section. The changing rooms for both teams are almost finished. The electrical wirings are being finalized. However, not all the comfort rooms will be fixed in time so the PFF will be placing portalets outside the stadium.”

“It’s a huge facelift for a facility that has not been used in a long time,” pronounced Rivilla who has had international match experience. “We are also inviting the media to take a look at what we are doing to Rizal Memorial on June 23rd at 1pm.”

The General Coordinator also said that the traffic routing scheme and other details will be unveiled to the general public in the next few days.

  1. It is about time.

I hope the Government of the Philippines with the help of big companies (local and Foreign) in the Philippines like Banco de Oro, SM, Jollibee, Cebu Pacific Airlines, BPI, Hanjin, Samsung, supplements company, and some sports and water company help in building a sports hub as big as 60 to 80 hectares (where they can hold international competitions like football, tennis, boxing, basketball, football, volleyball, swimming, track and field, cycling, billiard, etc.) somewhere in Taguig Sucat area.

    God bless the Philippines.
