BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

I pity them Pirates! Mr. T rules!

Since the New York Yankees are playing the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, I thought I'd pull out this old youtube video of Mr. T -- Clubber Lang! BA Barracus! -- throwing the ceremonial first ball and singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in a Cubs match versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. "Fo it's one, two, three strikes you out at the ole ball game! I pity them Pirates Gggrrrrr!" Hahaha. Super hilarious. Not sure which one is -- Mr. T's or Ozzy Osbourne mumbling his way through the seventh inning stretch. Billie Joe Armstrong (of Green Day) was pretty cool.

And Ed Nuñez is making a strong case for more playing time. Remember what I said about Nuñez possibly pulling a Wally Pipp? And New York even the three-game inter-league series at a game a piece. AJ Burnett got the win to go 7-5 while Mo Rivera pitched for his 17th save.

Writing something on baseball.
