BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

PBA Draft News

PBA Commissioner Sonny Barrios said that the deadline for the submission of papers for Fil-foreign applicants will be on August 16, 2010. So far only three of the 20 Fil-foreigners have their papers in order: Josh Vanlandingham, Hyram Bagatsing (La Salle), and Sean Michael Dee Anthony.

Among the locals who have filed for the draft: Chester Taylor (UST), Khasim Mirza (UST), Bam Gamalinda (San Beda), Nonoy Baclao (Ateneo), Rabeh Al-Hussaini (Ateneo), Rob Labagala (UE), Rey Guevarra (Letran), Pari Llagas (UE), and RJ Jazul (Letran) among many others.

Fifty-one players have applied for the draft.

Anthony trained with Smart Gilas for a while but was jerked around by some jerks. Guevarra, Jazul, and Al-Hussaini thought it was better to try the PBA than sit on the bench of Gilas.

Rookie Camp is set from August 20-26. The Annual PBA Rookie Draft will be held on August 29 at Market! Market!
