BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Changes in the PBA family

The PBA Board officially approved the sale of the Sta. Lucia franchise to the Manila Electric Company effectively closing a chapter in the company's 18-year stint in the pro league. And as it is already known, Ryan Gregorio will be coaching the team.

The PBA also declared that Talk 'N Text and Meralco being sister teams, they cannot trade players to on another straight up.

Ramon Segismundo, Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Human Resources and Corporate Services will be the company's board representative to the PBA.

The transfer of Gregorio from B-MEG Derby Ace also means a change in the former Purefoods team's name. In the next conference, they will be known as Petron. Jorge Gallent will reportedly be the new coach.

And oh... will Coca Cola change its name to Powerade now? Word is they will.
