BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Enter Sandman

One of the most fearsome sights in baseball. Mariano Rivera coming out of the bullpen and racing onto the field to the music of Metallica's "Enter Sandman." It's lights out for the opposing team (mostly though). I would get goosebumps when I'd actually see this sight. There's a marked difference from television as opposed to seeing it live especially when the bass drum begins to beat. Then when the bass begins to hum and the guitars barge in like a Kukri winging its way towards you then all hell breaks loose. If they didn't play this heavy metal classic, I'd recommend Echo and the Bunnymen's "The Cutter."
