BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Dumbass Call Part 1

Saw the replay of the FilOil Finals between San Sebastian and Far Eastern University. That call in the game's final seconds -- where RR Garcia was whistled for a foul on Pamboy Raymundo -- should have not been called. Compared to what they called earlier that should have been let go. If maybe Garcia really bludgeoned Raymundo, shoved him or something that would have given an advantage to FEU then sure call it. But not like that. The ref decided that game. The two teams should have been made to battle it out in OT.

Incidentally, he was the same ref who whistled Rico Maierhofer for the alleged "finger."
