BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Chasing glory

Andy Pettitte won his 200th game with the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers won 4-3 as Pettitte beat the Houston Astros, the only other team he played for between his two stints in pinstripes in the second Interleague Play of the season. He's tied at that number with the great Ron Guidry, Mr. Louisiana Lightning himself. NY is at 38-23 with 1 game behind Tampa Bay in the American League East standings. I think they've got eight more games in their homestand at the Bronx.
