Thursday Stuff

Here's the opening day sked of the Fil Oil Pre-Season Tournament that will be held at the San Juan Arena.
1PM Opening Ceremony
2PM Ateneo de Manila University vs. San Beda College
4PM De La Salle University vs. Letran College

Former Chicago Bull BJ Armstrong will be here late next week. Details, interview, and photos to follow. And speaking of former NBA players, the second edition of the NBA Asia Challenge will be held this coming September if I am not mistaken. The line-up hasn't been decided.

Rudy Hatfield's back and I think he'll be playing in Ginebra's next match. Is it against Rain or Shine? Not sure what team though.

Nonito Donaire vs. Vic Darchinyan? Yep, the Armenian who is the current WBA and WBC Flyweight Champion is going to fight the Fil-Am fighter in a rematch of epic proportions. They could fight 'round August this year, a prelude to the megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather should that happen. But if not -- its could be Shane Mosley or even Antonio Margarito. Can you say, "fireworks?" That is still going to be an awesome fight.

According to the Milwaukee Brewers Mark Attanacio, the New York Yankees' infield makes more money than his entire roster -- $85 million to $80 million. And NY 3B Alex Rodriguez makes slightly less than the Pittsburgh Pirates' entire roster -- $33 million to A-Rod and $35 million to the Steel City team.

What are you complaining about, Mark -- compete or don't. having the highest payroll doesn't mean that you will win the World Series. It does give you a plus but it doesn't guarantee it. So much for Billy Beane's moneyball theory. I buy Theo Epstein's theories on picking players better.
