Powerade RP loses to Korea

Team Pilipinas, one night after beating Japan, did not have enough ammunition this time around as they lost to South Koreans 69-56.

With the Filipinos closely sticking to their outside shooters, the Koreans had their lowest halftime output so far at 35-25 in the half. That’s when they went inside to 7-foot-3 Ha Seung-Jin.

As tall as he was, it slowed down the Koreans game and it got the Philippines back in the thick of the fight. But turnovers and poor shooting – outside Mick Pennisi -- did in the RP Team. Cyrus Baguio and Asi Taulava played well, but the support was few and far in between.

KOREA 69 – Yang 14, Oh 11, Kim 11, Kim JS 8, Kang 7, Ha 6, Lee 6, Lee JS 2, Yang D 2, Joo 2, Bang 0.

RP 56 – Baguio 16, Pennisi 9, Taulava 7, Raymundo 6, Dillinger 5, Yap 4, Norwood 4, Miller 4, Thoss 1, Helterbrand 1, Santos 0.

Quarters: 17-14; 35-25; 51-44; 69-56

Host China, South Korea, Jordan and defending champion Iran came away on the third day of the FIBA Asia Men’s Championship with 3-0 slates to move into the next level of the elimination. The second and third place teams in their groups likewise advanced.

South Korea, the Philippines and Japan from Group A take on Iran, Chinese-Taipei and Kuwait from Group B starting Monday, while China, Qatar and Kazakhstan from Group C battle Jordan, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates from Group D.

The winners advance to the knockout quarterfinals.
