BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Kobe Bryant Press Con Part 2

I wanted to ask Kobe a couple of questions, but TJ Manotoc hogged the mike and the talkies. And by the time the mike was swinging my way, this girl supposedly from Maxim grabbed it and asked a moronic question.

What I wanted to ask:

1) What was it like to visit Camp Nou and chat with Ronaldinho and Frank Rijkaard? If Barcelona played AC Milan in the Champions League final, who would you root for? KOBE IS A FOOTBALL FAN WHO GREW UP WATCHING AC MILAN. BUT HE'S NOW SWITCHED TO BARCA AND HAS NAMED RONALDINHO AS HIS FAVE FOOTBALLER. IF HE STAYED IN ITALY, KOBE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN FOOTBALL AS HIS MAIN SPORT.

2) What did Jason Kidd say to him before the Team USA scattered after the FIBA Americas?

3) Does he have anything to say about Phil Jax then-impending election to the Basketball Hall of Fame?

Oh well.....
