BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

My Game

Watch out for the basketball documentary from Nike titled MY GAME. It will be out this September and it tells of the humble beginnings of players like Ren Ren Ritualo, James Yap, Arwind Santos, Don Don Hontiveros, Rico Maierhoffer, and Jobe Nkemakolam.

The one-hour docu is directed by Carlo Ledesma and produced by Mel Lozano. Very interesting concept. It's in its final stages of shooting and post-production to begin soon. I had a long chat with Direk Carlo this noon and he told me that it was my article on Jobe (Jobe's Ladder that was featured in my Monday column in Business Mirror) that landed the Blue Eagle his part. I'll re-post that story.

Carlo kidded Jobe, "You owe your part to Rick." Hahaha. Nah. It's all the big guy. He deserves all the luck. If anything, my reward is that the column or even the stories or commentary within affect people in a positive way.

And here are some stills from the film. Enjoy!
