BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

The 1995-96 Chicago Bulls still have the last word!

During the 1996-97 NBA season, the league's 50th, some of the great teams were mentioned and debated -- the 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers, the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers, the 1982-83 Philadelphia 76ers, the 1985-86 Boston Celtics, and the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordan ended the discussion when he said, "Anybody else win 72 games?"

The 2015-16 Golden State Warriors answered, "We did!" after they thumped the Memphis Grizzlies for win #73.

Michael Jordan will now have to amend his riposte and ask, "Anybody else win 70-plus games and win a NBA championship?"

70-plus wins don't mean a thing without a ring. That one is all Ron Harper. But he does speak the truth.
