BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Appearing on Al Jazeera's The Stream!

I've done a few live reports for Al Jazeera about boxing and it was swell of them to ask me to do that.  But this one... guesting on The Stream was something special. When I was asked to talk about Muhammad Ali, my first thought was, "Why me? There are others like Ronnie Nathanielsz." But they said they like my stuff. And that feels good to be recognized for my work. And I feel blessed to be given these opportunities. And it was nice "meeting" Adam, Femi, Malika, Tariq, and Michael!

Here is something I wrote about Ali's social activism.
