BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Head coach Roger Gorayeb named his lineup – although missing one name – to the Asian Women’s Under-23 Championship.

Kim Fajardo

Gorayeb said that although Fajardo verbally said she is interested in joining the team, she is requesting a letter to Philippine Army where she recently signed up. The veteran head coach hopes that she will show up today for practice for the lineup to finally be complete.

Two recent additions are Ateneo’s Jhoanna Maraguinot and Rissa Sato. Sato is Fil-Japanese who recently received her Philippine passport. “We filled up some holes in the lineup by getting those who were available and wanted to play,” said Gorayeb who indirectly referred to the difficulties brought about by the row between the Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas and the Philippine Volleyball Federation. “Hopefully, Kim will show up at the practice so that should mean she is more or less committed to participating,” clarified Gorayeb. “If not, we select someone else who has been religious in showing up for team practices.”

Should Fajardo not show up this weekend, Gorayeb will discuss with Anusorn Bundit, who recently guided Ateneo to its second consecutive UAAP Women’s Volleyball title, who the 12th person will be for the RP team.

Should Fajardo, La Salle’s setter be unavailable, it is possible that Perpetual Help-Biñan’s Elaine Kasilag will get the nod at the utility position.
