The introduction of the upcoming Bellator light
heavyweight fight between Stephan Bonnar and Tito Ortiz may have smacked of WWE
soap BUT I LOVED IT.
Bonnar loves to talk smack and unfortunately, Ortiz
isn’t good at that as he’d prefer to do let his fists do the talking. So the
pre-fight brawl may not have landed some haymakers but Bellator wanted buzz and
they got buzz.
The Masked Man schtick (with Justin McCully behind
the mask) Bonnar used may have been a little overboard (more so with his
including Ortiz’ ex-wife Jenna Jameson in his taunts) but really all the
pre-fight talk about kicking one’s ass is so run-of-the-mill. Besides, you
should expect all that cheap heat coming from the American Psycho.
However, Bonnar is treading on thin ice here. After his
two failed drugs tests that tarnished his image and legacy (personally I wonder
why he is a UFC Hall of Famer when he has a 15-8 record with a 8-7 record in
the UFC), this time he hopes to go out on a high note by fighting Ortiz.
UFC’s Dana White has been quoted as saying he
released Bonnar to Bellator (jn exchange for Eddie Alvarez) of who he hopes
will kick the crap out of Ortiz, a nemesis of his.
November 15 cannot come soon enough.
