SWU’s Sanjo is Player of the week

For his efforts in leading the Southwestern
University Cobras to a 2-0 record against Manila teams in the ongoing Filoil
Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, Cameroonian Landry Sanjo was named the Purefoods
Best Player of the Week.
The 6’7” Sanjo averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds,
1.0 assists, and 4.0 blocks in those two matches where the Cobras took down two
previously unbeaten squads in Jose Rizal University and the University of Perpetual
Help. SWU defeated JRU, 72-68, and UPHDS, 79-77.
"Landry is our a big part of our
success," said SWU head coach Yayoy Alcoseba. "He plays smart, never
forces the issue, and is our defensive anchor."
The Cobras return to Cebu where they will play four
matches against UAAP squads La Salle and UE as well as CESAFI rivals University
of San Carlos and University of Visayas from May 21-25 in the first road games
in Filoil history.
Sanjo was also named to the Gatorade Best Five along
with Perpetual Help’s Harold Arboleda, UP’s JR Gallarza, NU’s Alfred Aroga, and
Letran’s Kevin Racal.
Holy Trinity College Wildcats’ Delmar Mahaling came
out of nowhere to bag the Gatorade Defensive Player of the Week Award. The 6’4”
Mahaling averaged 11.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in three matches for the
Wildcats team out of General Santos City that is making their Filoil debut.
