BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

A funny incident in today's Seaoil NBTC finals

There's this guy who is always at the UAAP/NCAA and other basketball tournaments… always cheering for a certain team. This morning during one of the Seaoil NBTC games, he yelled out loud, "Press niyo." The team he was rooting for (Davao) pressed but it was easily broken by the opposing team (Cebu) that scored on a wide open triple and undergoal stab. The Davao coach called time and demanded to know why they pressed. Said the point guard, "Coach, di ba sinigaw niyo mag-press." The coach knew who the culprit was and looked at towards that fan who tried to be invisible. "Wala akong sinabi," he growled. We all had a laugh at their expense. Imagine that!
